POLICE in Scarborough are appealing for information following an assault in the town.

It took place in Belmont Road at noon on Thursday when a 29-year-old local man was approached by a man he did not know.

The attacker spoke with the victim briefly before punching him in the face. As a result of the assault the victim suffered a broken nose and black eyes.

The attacker had walked from the Esplanade in the South Cliff area, past the Carlton Hotel.

He is described as being aged between 35 to 45 years old, white, approximately 5ft 4in tall with a stocky build and short light brown hair. At the time he was wearing a blue “hoodie” top with the hood up.

Police Constable Stephen Monty, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack which left the victim with nasty injuries and very shocked.

“I ask that anyone who witnessed the assault or can help to identify the attacker to contact me as soon as possible.”
