Scarborough Police is hunting a gang of youths after a goose was beaten to death with a stick in a “barbaric” attack.

Officers were alerted by a member of the public at around 6am last Thursday, who reported seeing three youths attacking the bird in Valley Road.

The man confronted the gang and they ran off in the direction of Tesco.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them with information.

The youths have been described as male and aged between 16 and 18-years-old.

They were all wearing jeans and t-shirts.

PC Holly Hornsby, of Scarborough Police, said: “This was a pointless, barbaric act against a defenceless animal.

“It is important that we find out who is responsible and I am urging anyone who can help to identify the youths involved to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone who can help officers with their inquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Holly Hornsby or Scarborough Police.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
