Police issue warning after spate of burglaries

POLICE in Scarborough are warning motorists to be vigilant after a spate of burglaries in the area.

The warning comes after North Yorkshire Police responded to nine two-in-one burglaries during the last two weeks.

The burglaries see criminals break into houses with the intention of stealing keys to vehicles.

Extra patrols have been set up to combat the thefts, but the force have also issued advice to homeowners.

The checklist includes keeping vehicle keys out of view from windows and doors and ensure doors and windows are secure.

Officers have also urged car owners to park their vehicles, where possible, in a garage and to also close and lock gates and use security locks.

Anyone with information about two-in-one burglaries in the area should contact North Yorkshire Police on the new 101 number.

Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
