Police searching for a Nottinghamshire man believe that he could be in the Scarborough area.
Officers have turned their search to the North Yorkshire coast in the hope of finding the 53-year-old.
Steven Robert Thomas was reported missing from his home in Worksop on Monday.
Officers are becoming increasingly concerned for his well being following recent bad news.
A police spokesman said: “There are concerns about Mr Thomas’s welfare and his state of mind following two recent bereavements.
“It is believed he may be in the Scarborough area of North Yorkshire, but so far there have been no confirmed sightings of him despite extensive local enquiries.”
It is understood that Mr Thomas could be travelling in a silver Nissan Almera with the registration number MK03 SCX.
Mr Thomas is described as 5ft 10ins tall, of large build and with very short, receding hair.
He normally wears glasses but the spokesman said it was not known what clothing he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.
Officers are asking anyone with any information which could help the search, or any sightings, to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 682 of 27 August.
Alternatively information can be passed on to officers from North Yorkshire Police on 101 – the North Yorks incident number is 482 of 27 August.
