A Scarborough coach park was sealed off yesterday following an assault on an 18-year-old local woman.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened in the William Street coach park at around 3am.

The woman was left deeply traumatised and in need of medical treatment as a result of the attack.

The suspect is described as a white man aged 35 to 40 years old, with dark hair which is thin on top. He was wearing a pinstripe shirt and dark jeans.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Farthing, of Scarborough CID, said: “This incident has naturally left the woman deeply shocked.

“I know that there were a number of people in the William Street coach park area between 2.20am and 3.10am on Sunday. If you were in the area at around the time of this incident then I urge you to contact the police immediately.

“Even if you don’t think you have any information that could help directly, you may still be able to pass on some details that could assist in establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
