A TEAM of police officers spent two hours searching a property in Scarborough’s Old Town.

A police van was parked in the street while seven uniformed officers searched the house and back yard.

Witnesses said they arrived at the St Mary’s Walk address at 10.30am yesterday morning.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said that he could not give any details about the operation.

He added: “It would be inappropriate to comment about this matter at this time.”

One witness, who did not wish to give their name, said that officers could be seen searching the guttering of the terraced house.

Police were also spotted in nearby Tollergate and at the back of neighbouring homes.

Officers took away a number of bags of evidence during the search which were stored in the police van.
