Shotgun wounding charge: man in court

A 28-YEAR-OLD Scarborough man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

Matthew Davis, of Pavilion Terrace, also faced a charge of possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life.

The charges relate to an incident on Saturday in High Garth, Eastfield, when a 36-year-old man received a gunshot wound to the leg.

Davis appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday in police custody, wearing a grey sweatshirt and navy tracksuit bottoms.

He spoke briefly to confirm his name, age and address during the short hearing. Davis did not enter a plea.

Kathryn Reeve, prosecuting, asked for the defendant to be remanded in custody.

Marcus Topham, mitigating, made no application for bail.

Davis was remanded in custody and will appear at Leeds Crown Court on May 3.

Following an extensive search, North Yorkshire Police are still looking for the weapon that was used in Saturday’s incident.
