A MAN allegedly tried to persuade two children to get into his car, police have revealed.
Officers have also stepped up patrols in the area and are liaising with local schools to reassure concerned parents.
The incident happened in Sherburn at 4.30pm on Thursday January 13, when the man offered the six-year-old boy and eight-year-old girl sweets and said he would drive them to the park.
The man is described as having a dark complexion and blue or green eyes, aged in his 30s with dark hair and a medium build. At the time he was driving a silver vehicle similar to an old-style Vauxhall Astra or Ford Escort estate.
Insp Tim Hutchinson, of the Ryedale Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I would also like to reassure members of the community that we have increased the number of patrols at times when children will be walking to and from school, as well as increasing general patrols.”
