A CRACKDOWN on crime in Scarborough’s town centre led to three arrests on Saturday.
There were increased numbers of officers patrolling hot-spots and looking for well-known offenders in the town as part of Operation Mandrill, which targets drink and drug related crime and shop thefts.
The three people were arrested on suspicion of theft.
Sgt Jacqui Raynor, who led the patrols, said: “There were positive comments from members of the public who felt reassured while shopping in the town centre. There were minimal incidents of note probably due to the police presence.”
Despite a quiet day, a woman had a purse stolen from a handbag while she was shopping in Debenhams in the Brunswick Centre on Saturday.
