A suspected drink driver was arrested after he was spotted trying to fill up his tires - with a vacuum cleaner.

The bizarre incident unfolded at the Seamer Road filling station at 7am on Sunday morning, when concerned onlookers spotted the suspect trying to use the garage’s device to blow some air into his tires.

When the man failed to blow up his tyres with the vacuum, he then tried to use the water line, police said.

The 21-year-old was allegedly twice the legal limit, and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Police tweeted about the incident at the time, and one police source said: “It was absolutely bizarre.”

The man has been charged with drink driving and driving without insurance.

He will appear in court later this month.
