A SCARBOROUGH teenager has appeared in court accused of stealing a handbag and its contents valued at £65.

Owen Paul Hill, 19, of no fixed address, appeared in custody during the hearing at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court.

He is alleged to have stolen the bag at the Barbican bar in St Nicholas Street on May 11. Hill denied the charge.

Sam Rogers, prosecuting, said that she believed the case was suitable for a summary trial, to be heard at Scarborough.

The magistrates accepted jurisdiction and the defendant chose for his case to be heard at magistrates’ court.

Hill was remanded in custody until the next hearing on May 23.

There was no bail application.
