A RETIRED bakery worker who became distraught after the death of his wife hanged himself two months later, an inquest at Scarborough was told.
A verdict that he killed himself was recorded by the Deputy North Yorkshire East Coroner, John Broadbridge, on Richard Chapman, 64, of Wreyfield Drive, Scarborough, who was found dead at his home last October.
Mr Broadbridge, giving his verdict, said Mr Chapman’s family had said he could not get over losing his wife of 30 years, Janet, and had said he could not live without her.
Mr Chapman had suffered health problems but his family doctor had said he had no history of depression.
He had been offered bereavement counselling but declined it.
Mr Broadbridge said: “They were obviously a devoted couple and he was distraught after her death.”
