POLICE issued a warning yesterday after an elderly Scarborough couple were conned by a telephone scam.
The couple had been telephoned at their home by an unknown cold caller, who told the couple they had won a prize.
They were told they would receive the prize if they went to a supermarket and bought a Ukash voucher, before phoning the company back up.
Ukash offers an international cash payment method service.
Staff at Sainsburys in Ramshill called the police on Wednesday after the pensioners raised concerns about the possible scam.
The elderly couple were then left “very upset and distressed” when they realised they had been duped.
Detective Inspector Ian Wills said: “Don’t, under any circumstances, part with the number of a cash voucher or any other personal details to cold callers.”
