PEDAL power has arrived at a Scarborough school as part of an international fundraising attempt.

Youngsters at St Peter’s School in North Leas Avenue are aiming to cycle 5,000 on exercise bikes - the distance from Scarborough to India.

They are raising money for the Bethel House Orphanage in India and have sent letters to the children who live there.

Teacher Nick Turley said: “It’s going really well and we’re on track to hit 1,000 miles a day.

“The whole school has got involved and people are bringing in donations towards our £500 target.”

The school has 222 children aged five to 11 years who have all been taking part.

Exercise bikes have been set up in the hall and in other locations around school. Parents and teachers have also been getting involved and taking turns. The bikes were provided by Dominic Grunwell.
