DIDN’T they do wheely well? That’s the lads from the boys’ brigade based at Wreyfield Drive Methodist Church in Scarborough.

Members did a sponsored bike ride from Whitby to Scarborough to raise cash for an extension being built at their headquarters.

Part of the new building will be a garage to house the troop’s mini-bus.

Fifteen riders took part in the fundraiser which ended in a lunch at the church. The day raised £500.

The extension fund now stands at £175,000, which is more than half way towards the £300,000 the brigade hopes to raise.

“This was just one in a series of fundraisers we have planned,” said the group’s captain Chris Bristow.

“They all put in a fantastic effort and we were really pleased with the total raised,” he said.

The next event is on Saturday April 9 when an Easter fair will be held at the church.

There will be coffee, stalls and hot cross buns. The fair opens at 10am and runs until noon.

l The Wreyfield Drive brigade is also collecting Tesco for Schools vouchers. They can be dropped off at the church or sent to Chris c/o: 8 Britannia Street, Scarborough.

The brigade has until July 1 to handover any vouchers collected.
