Death of Hunmanby stalwart

A HUNMANBY community stalwart, who dedicated his career to policing, has died aged 65.

Former Scarborough officer Stan Dickinson, from High Croft, passed away on January 4.

He joined North Yorkshire Police as a young man, walking the beat in Scarborough before moving to Huddersfield in 1964 where he was involved in many serious investigations, including several murder cases.

Possessing a lifelong love of the North Yorkshire Coast, he moved to Hunmanby upon retirement in 2000.

He spent his retirement gardening, even writing a book on it to raise money for St Catherines Hospice.

His funeral will take place at East Riding Crematorium on January 12 at 10am.

A full tribute to Mr Dickinson will be featured in a subsequent edition of the Filey and Hunmanby Mercury.
