THE Diabetes Specialist Team in Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale are holding a Diabetes Awareness event tomorrow in the Ocean Room at Scarborough’s Spa Complex.
The event, called “Increase your awareness of diabetes”, starts at 9.30am and finishes at 1pm.
It will include information stands, a programme of speakers and exercise and live-cooking demonstrations.
There will be a programme of speakers including Lucy Walczak who is a world class UK sculler who has Type 1 diabetes and controls her diabetes using an insulin pump.
Other speakers include Richard Lane, the President of Diabetes UK, Dr Tadeusz Pawlak, Consultant Diabetologist at Scarborough Hospital and Scarborough mayor, John Blackburn.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness of diabetes to the population of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.
The event has been orgainsed by diabetes services co-ordinator Helen Hinchliffe, who is employed by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
