Residents are urged to make sure they are on the electoral register or risk missing out on the opportunity to vote in forthcoming elections.
The annual canvass is being carried out this month to ensure that the register is as up to date as possible before the system of Individual Electoral Registration (IER) is introduced in 2014.
At present, one person in every household is responsible for registering everyone else who lives at that address. The Government is proposing that, from summer 2014, each person will be required to register to vote individually, rather than by household.
Pre-printed canvass forms are being delivered to every residential property in the borough, and Scarborough Council is asking residents to update their registration details as soon as possible to save costs on reminders and house visits. For more information call 01723 232309 or 232307.
