Donation saves community service

A COMMUNITY service which faced closure has been saved thanks to a £2.000 donation.

The Castle Community Centre has been given the cash by Yorkshire Coast Homes.

The project, based in the Market Vaults, provides services such as giving local residents access to free IT courses.

The centre’s two-year charitable trust funding ends next month and Yorkshire Coasts Homes has helped support the centre until April – giving time to build an application for lottery funding.

Castle Community Office project manager Christine Mackay said: “I’m very grateful to Yorkshire Coast Homes for the support they have provided, it has come along at exactly the right time”.

Sarah Bird, assistant director of communities at Yorkshire Coast Homes, said “The centre provides a valuable service to people in the locality, and we wanted to support the continuation of services.”
