A Scarborough lady has celebrated her 100th birthday in style with a big family get-together.
Edna May Ireland, pictured here with granddaughter Gail Wilson, son Paul Ireland and daughter Lorna Page, still lives independently in Scalby with help from her family. Originally from Hull, Edna May has lived in Scarborough for more than 50 years. She worked right up until her 70s, doing cleaning and domestic work, and has always been fit and well.
Her granddaughter Gail said: “She loves a laugh - she actually laughs before she tells you something funny! She’s very well mannered and so calm - I’ve never heard her raise her voice. She used to bake for the whole family and her fruit loaf was legendary!” The family, including many who had travelled from abroad, gathered at Scalby Parish Hall for a big party in honour of Edna May. She has a big family and is a grandma, great grandma and great great grandma.
