The St Augustine’s School pupil received the invite after taking part in work experience at Mr Goodwill’s Scarborough office.

And the aspiring politician said her brief glimpse into the world of local government had given her a real taste to follow her chosen career path.

She said: “Being given the chance to work at Robert Goodwill’s office was brilliant and really interesting because it allowed me to find out more about politics.

“There was a lot that goes on which I didn’t realise and it also allowed me to see what Mr Goodwill does in the local area too.”

As part of her introduction into politics, Miss Murphy was invited as a guest of one of the candidates in the recent borough elections, and said it had proven to be a real eye-opener.

She added: “It was a lot more friendly than I expected it to be.

“You expect the parties to have a lot of rivalry be but the candidates were all speaking to each other and it was a friendly atmosphere.”
