Twins Olivia and Freya Carlyon, St Augustines RC School pupils from Crossgates, were both pleased with a crop of top grades in their GCSE exams.
Freya managed four A* results and three A grades and said she was hoping to study languages at A Level.
She said: “I am very happy and it’s a relief. The hard work was worth it because I got the results I needed.”
Olivia managed three A* grades and three A grades. She said that she hoped to study Biology, Chemistry, German and PE at A Level. “These are probably about what I wanted,” she said.
Fellow pupil Libby Bowman, from Cayton, managed to gain a total of 10 top grades – eight A* grades and two As.
She said she was planning to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology at A Level. “The hard work was worth it and I am really pleased with my sciences. I was really excited at first but last night I was quite nervous. I’d built it up in my head that it might not be what I wanted but it’s worked out better than I could have hoped for.”
jacob Allen, from Cornelian Drive, said he had five A* grades and four As. He said: “I am really excited by that – it’s more than I wanted and more than I needed.”
Staff hailed this year’s results the best ever and deputy headteacher Ashley Brooks said: “Pupils, parents, staff and governors at St.Augustines RC are delighted to be celebrating another fantastic year of GCSE results again. The pupils have excelled once more.”
He added that 83 per cent gained five A* to C grades and 69 per cent achieved five A* to C grades which included English and Maths. “St.Augustines’ pupils have shown again they are capable of academic excellence through their hard work, parents support and dedication of an excellent team of staff and governors.
“These results confirm our strong commitment and decision to focus on traditional GCSE subjects. All of the staff wish our leavers the very best in their future chosen fields in life. We look forward to welcoming all staff and pupils back in September.”
