IT WAS an emotional prom for Raincliffe School pupils 10 years on from their first event.
The school was the first to hold a school prom and this year’s event was the last for Raincliffe because next year they will hold a combined one with Graham School.
Jane Lynch, a school spokeswoman, said a total of 37 pupils attended the Ambassador Hotel this year and they held a balloon release to celebrate the milestone.
She said: “It was a special event. It was Raincliffe School that held the very first prom in Scarborough 10 years ago. I was involved in that.
“It was a small year group but that doesn’t matter because we decided they still deserved a good send off. They love the showtime of it all –even the lads come along with different coloured tops and bow ties.”
She added that the balloons were released at 7.30pm and each one had a label attached. She said: “Each said it was released to celebrate the last prom.”
As well as the balloon release all the pupils who attended were given a commemorative keyring –which read “Shoot for the moon even if you miss you will land in the stars” – as well as a bag of gifts.
