TALENTED youngsters from a Scarborough school showcased their skills at an X Factor-style contest.

Students from St Augustine’s School sang, danced and played music to a packed audience during the show at Westborough Methodist Church.

Auditions were held and 50 students were whittled down to 23 for the final.

Local musicians Martin Richardson, Alastair James and Gemma Jarrett were on hand to judge the competition.

Year 9 student Maisie Atkinson scooped first place for her guitar and vocal performance of Sail This Ship Alone by The Beautiful South.

A close second was Chloe Springall who played a Brahms piece on the clarinet.

Music teacher Oliver Barron said: “The standard of performances was brilliant - I wouldn’t have liked to have been a judge! It was an excellent evening and cracking fun. The children all love performing and they all supported each other.”
