YOUNGSTERS at Happy Jays Nursery are keeping active this summer in their first ever sports day.

The nursery planned the event after several toddlers had been talking about trips to their older siblings’ school sports days.

Nursery nurse Emily Ashworth said it was so well received that they are now going to make it an annual fixture at the Hopper Hill Road grounds.

She said: “Some of the older children have been talking about going to see their brothers and sisters in sports day at school, so we decided to get active and do our own.

“The older children did different races, throwing activities, balancing on beams.

“They all received certificates and medals.

“They loved it and had so much fun - and so did the staff.”

Miss Ashworth added: “The children had lots of fun cheering the groups on, we’re going to do a sports day every summer now.”
