A SCARBOROUGH school certainly hit the target when a former Olympic hockey star dropped in to boost the countdown to the sporting showpiece.

Mark Precious, a bronze medallist at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, stopped off at Scarborough College to change the date on its huge Olympic Torch banner.

Mr Precious, a governor at the school, visited as part of reunion weekend which welcomed more than 60 Old Scardeburgians back for a weekend of sport and celebrations.

The former Great Britain player, who still turns out for England’s Over-50s Masters team, then took to the pitch to show off his skills and led the team of Old Boys to victory over the school’s current first team.

A school spokesman added: “We were delighted to welcome Mark back, along with all of our Old Scardeburgian’s.”
