Pupils’ mammoth cycling trek

ENERGETIC youngsters and teachers from a Scarborough school are gearing up for a cycling challenge with a difference – by attempting to travel to Africa without leaving the town.

The Year Four and Year Five pupils from Lindhead School are taking part in a sponsored 3,555 mile ride on exercise bikes to Asienimpong, in Ghana, to help fund a water pipe for youngsters at the Liberty Orphanage.

The school has been given 35 exercise bikes for people to take part and is asking volunteers to spare just ten minutes riding time for a minimum donation of £1 to boost the cause.

Assistant headteacher Pam Gaskell said the youngsters were excited by the somewhat daunting proposition and hoped teams could come forward and give their support.

The challenge takes place on Wednesday, May 4, between 8am and 6pm and for more information about getting a booking slip to take part contact (01723) 870714 or email admin@lindhead.n-yorks.sch.uk
