A SCARBOROUGH school has created the right chemistry for future academic success after opening a new science laboratory.
Scarborough College unveiled its Biology facility to scores of guests with former student Professor Darren Dixon officially opening the unit.
Mr Dixon is currently Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Oxford University and said he was delighted to return and see the new building in action.
Former school teachers and Scarborough mayor Cllr Hazel Lynskey were also on hand to witness the grand opening, with Prof Dixon revealing it was a former teacher at Scarborough College who saw his potential at just 13-years-old and nurtured and encouraged his passion for chemistry.
The day formed a double celebration for current sixth form students who were given the opportunity to talk to Prof Dixon about chemistry, his vast research work, and life at Oxford University, before listening to his talk about research in organic chemistry and its links on the world of medicine and the search for cancer cures.
