ENERGETIC students from a Scarborough school were rewarded for their sporting prowess in a special awards ceremony.

The pupils from Scalby School were honoured in the school’s first Sports Awards Evening.

The event celebrated students’ achievements and commitment who had demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the year, including Jasmine Clark, who was praised for her football and netball skills, and Jamie Broadbent, who received awards for football and bowls.

Further awards were given to Regan Hewitt for football and cricket, and Zoe Whiting for athletics.

Team honours were also presented to the Year 10 netball team, who are the current unbeaten district champions, and to the Year Eight and Year 10 football teams who are district cup runners-up.

Current Scunthorpe United midfielder Sam Togwell was the guest speaker and presented the awards before giving a speech on the dedication needed to succeed at the top level.

Caroline Perrin, a PE teacher at the school who organised the evening, said: “It was very well attended by students and their families, including students who had left last year.

“A wonderful evening was had by all.”
