ADULT learners celebrated their recent academic successes in a presentation ceremony, with many now looking ahead to university.

North Yorkshire County Council Adult Learning and Skills Service put on the event for its learners who have achieved qualifications in courses ranging from literacy and numeracy to access to higher education.

Area adult learning manager for Scarborough Joanna Oxtoby, called it a great celebration and said it had clearly benefited its learners.

She said: “It was an excellent turn-out and a lovely morning. We were also very pleased to have had the mayor there to present the wards.

“The event was a great celebration for everyone, particularly those who completed the access to higher education course and are all going on to university.

“They achieved this qualification in a year and they were all thrilled to be at the ceremony and celebrate their success.

“One learner said how much she enjoyed the learning opportunity and was delighted to go on to study at university, having completed the access course in a very short time.”

Adults are now able to enrol for courses and teaching qualifications starting in mid-September.
