Can you remember shelling?

WITH REFERENCE to Mick Jefferson’s reminiscence about the night of the landmine on Potter Lane while he was in the Futurist.

My mother and I were in the Futurist one night during the war when there was the sound of gunfire. The manager came on to the stage and advised the audience not to leave the building as there was some shelling from the sea.

I have not been able to find any report of this, even with the help of John Webster, Librarian in the Scarborough room archives at the library.

I wonder if anyone else knows of this incident. I can only hazard a guess at the year being about 1942 or 1943.
