GARDENERS will get the chance to improve their soil ahead of the summer season with a series of compost giveaway events across the Scarborough area.

A total of 60 tonnes of soil improver given out across three events in Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.

Harry Briggs, Scarborough Council’s recycling and waste enforcement manager, said: “With summer just around the corner, now is a perfect time for people to be getting back out in their gardens and exercising their green fingers.  What better way to help than with some top-quality free soil improver?

“We always look forward to these events as we are giving back to the community soil improver that they have produced from their own gardens.

“These events are always very popular, therefore we urge residents to get there quickly as the soil improver will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis.”

l The Scarborough event will be at Burniston Road car park between 4pm and 6pm next Wednesday – all residents need to do is bring along some sturdy bags or containers.
