Derwent Valley Scouts have thanked all those who helped them secure “Voice Your Choice” funding to carry out renovation work.
The scout group, which is based at Irton Moor Lane, held a special event to open their newly named “Lord Robert Baden-Powell” room on Saturday.
The grant funding meant that an old storage room could be transformed into a more useable space.
The room was officially opened by a Beaver, Cub and Scout, with the help of Scarborough’s mayor Cllr Helen Mallory.
Group Scout Leader David Lewis gave a speech in which he thanked the many local tradesmen and suppliers who gave generously of their time and efforts, which made it possible to finish the room to a high specification within the allotted budget.
In particular he thanked Scarborough Window Centre, John Robinson, Geoff Taylor, Adie Tuck, Duncan Wilson and R Forbes.
The Scout group topped the poll for Voice Your Choice in 2010 due to the efforts of former Scout leader Justin Terry, who along with Cub leaders Sally and Kevin Dawson, backed by various Scouts and Cubs.
Those involved impressed the local people with an exciting Scout display, showing the activities available to boys and girls from six to 19 years of age.
Voice Your Choice funding allocation is voted for by members of the public.
