A community group will this week launch the latest green energy initiative - harnessing power from their local river.
Esk Valley Community Energy Group, made up of 10 individuals who live within 20 miles of the Esk Valley, plan to install a hydro-electric turbine at Ruswarp Weir on the River Esk near Whitby.
It is hoped that the turbine will produce enough electricity to power 55 homes for a year.
The group hope to raise £320,000 through a share issue which is being launched on Wednesday.
Shares will be available in for a £250 minimum investment, up to a maximum of £20,000. If the funds are raised the turbine could be installed by April.
