A family are set to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care in recognition of the invaluable care provided to their Aunty Shirley.
Kirsty Perkins, her sister Zoe Devine and niece Jordanne (pictured), are all set to take part in the charity’s Walk Ten event at Castle Howard on Saturday.
They wanted to show support after the charity’s nurses cared for their aunty at home in Scarborough at the end of her life.
Kirsty, who lives in Tadcaster, said: “We sadly lost a much loved aunty to breast cancer. She was lucky enough to have an incredible Marie Curie nurse take care of her in her final days.
“Not only did she care for my Aunty Shirley but she helped and supported my mum and cousin who were nursing her at the time.
“Marie Curie nurses really are angels and taking part in the Walk Ten event at Castle Howard is our chance to give a bit back for the support we received.
“I’ll be doing the walk with my sister Zoe and her daughter and we are all really looking forward to it.”
Kyla Collins, local community fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “Walk Ten at Castle Howard is a fantastic event and brilliant occasion to get involved with.
“It gives people the chance to walk 10km in stunning surroundings, but also to recognise the dedication of Marie Curie nurses, who work through the day and night.”
