PLANS for a farm-themed shop and diner in St Thomas Street have approved by councillors.

Scarborough Council’s planning committee considered the application to convert former clothes shop GI Clothes into a farmshop and steak diner.

The property, 39 St Thomas Street, forms part of a purpose built block of businesses with residential flats above and has been closed for around two and a half years resulting in vandalism.

Permission has been granted for a change of use from retail to mixed use – the intention is the farm shop will operate in the front section of the premises with the dining area within the mid section and the kitchen and storage facilities to the back of the property.

The venture, which would open daily from 9am to 9pm, with the shop to close at 5.30pm, is to be called AJ’s Farm Shop and Diner.
