FUNDRAISERS in Scarborough have sent in a massive £76,256 in sponsorship money following this year’s Race for Life.
The event in aid of Cancer Research UK is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year, with hundreds of women and girls of all ages taking part.
Scarborough’s event in May saw participants take on a new seafront route around North Bay.
Runners started and finished at the Sea Life Centre, passing the beach chalets, Open Air Theatre and part of Marine Drive along the way.
Across the UK the Race for Life total currently stands at £37,596,401, which will all go towards research into beating cancer for good.
Claire Wase, area event manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “With money still coming in we are making one final push to ask the Race For Life ladies of 2011 to make it count.
“Many women who take part in Race for Life forget to return their sponsorship money. This year we are asking each participant to make sure that it is not them.”
There are three ways to return sponsorship money:
l Online at www.raceforlife.org
l By phone by calling 0871 641 1111
l By post. Send a cheque, payable to “Cancer Research UK”, to Race for Life, PO Box 442, Northampton, NN3 6UU.
Race for Life is also running an early bird offer for any ladies who would like to sign up for the 2012 event.
Until October 31, people can buy a pre-paid place for next year’s event, at a specially reduced entry fee of £10. Visit www.raceforlife.org/earlybird or call 0871 641 1111 mentioning “I want to be an early bird”.
Participants will receive a voucher code so they can book a place on the website in January.
