Fire crew deal with rain danger

FIRE ENGINES raced out to a busy town centre pub after heavy rainfall left a pipe hanging dangerously loose.

Two crews were called out to the Castle Tavern pub yesterday afternoon, after a drain pipe on the third story came loose after excess forced it to give way.

The crews were there for approximately half an hour after landlord Jimmy Rice was forced to call them out after workers insisted a cherry picker would be needed to carry out the work.

He was fearful that heavy winds, which were expected to batter Scarborough last night, would cause the pipe to come loose, saying: “My only concern was that in high winds it could come loose and kill someone.”
