FIREFIGHTERS had buckets of water at the ready – but it was not to douse flames.

Members of Snainton retained fire crew took part in a nationwide car wash day to raise cash for the Firefighters Charity.

The Snainton contingent, who cleaned dozens of cars in return for a donation, raised £214

“We had a lot of support locally and we were pleased with the amount we raised,” said a spokesman for the crew.

“The event gives a chance to raise money and to interact with a cross section of the community and promote fire safety,” he said.
