A spectacular new hospice fundraiser is coming to the coast with the first colour run to be held on a Yorkshire beach.

Hundreds are expected to flock to Filey on Saturday 7 May for a madcap dash along the sands when runners will be doused head to toe in a kaleidoscope of colour.

The 5k event is not a race and people can take part at any pace they choose, passing through colour stations where they will be pelted with a rainbow of coloured powder.

Saint Catherine’s Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell said they hoped to draw a big crowd.

“These events are fabulous fun and very popular with people of all ages,” she said.

“They’ve been held all over the country in parks and open spaces but having ours on Filey beach with such an amazing backdrop will make it even more special.”

The Colour the Coast event is open to everyone, including accompanied children from five years old, and will raise funds for Saint Catherine’s.

“We’re hoping that people will kick start their new year by signing up now and taking advantage of our early-bird offer,” Penny said.

The event has a limited number of places with an early bird offer of £12 for under-16s and £17 for adults.

The 200 early bird tickets are expected to be snapped up fast and the price will then rise to £14.50 for children and £19.50 for adults.

People can register now for an early bird place before on-line registration opens later this month.
