Friday morning’s high tide did not cause quite as much damage and chaos in Scarborough as the previous nights’.

The clean up operation is now beginning in the town, with Foreshore Road now more sand than tarmac.

Businesses were also counting the cost with sand clearly visible through the windows of the Silver Dollar amusements,

Peter Harrison, from the Fish Pan Restaurant told the Scarborough News that despite some water making it past the sandbags he hoped to be open today.

Meanwhile, Scarborough Borough Council has announced that today’s “blue bin” recycling collection has been cancelled to allow crews and vehicles to be deployed to the clean-up operation.

A catch up service will run on Monday.
