Yorkshire Water’s pump works in North Bay have been washed away by the storm surge that hit the town last night.

A large section of wall has also been destroyed as gale force winds hit the coast on Thursday evening.

No word as of yet from the water company about the extent of the damage.

A spokesman for Scarborough Council told the Scarborough News that it is hoped that Foreshore Road and Sandside could reopen on Friday afternoon, though Marine Drive will remain closed while checks for structural damage is carried out.
