Floral funds to boost hospital

A BLOOMING good time is on the cards as a Flower Festival comes to Burniston.

The four-day festival is being held at Burniston Methodist Church in aid of Leeds Children’s Hospital.

The event kicks of on Friday April 29 with a celebration concert at 7pm, which will be officially opened by Scarborough town crier Alan Booth.

For the following three days visitors will be able to take a tour of the church and the floral displays which have been donated by local residents and businesses in the village.

The festival is being organised by Jean Hanson and Doreen Dimmock.

Mrs Hanson said: “We saw an appeal from the Leeds Childrens Hospital saying they want to raise £4 million. We think they are a worthy cause and decided to hold the flower festival to support them.”

Tickets for the festival opening concert are £5 and are available from the church. Entrance to the festival costs £1.50 and can be purchased on the door.
