MEMBERS of a Scarborough flower group are preparing for their biggest event of the year this weekend.
The annual show of the Yorkshire Pelargonium and Geranium Society will be held at Scalby Parish Hall on Sunday and will be open to the public from noon to 5pm.
Secretary Ron Ward said it would be the society’s 11th annual show.
He said: “The society is said to be one of the most successful in the country. It has well over 70 members from as far afield as Lowestoft, Grimsby, West Yorkshire and the Teesside area, and the society show is now being regarded as being on a par with the national show of the British Pelargonium Society, which has just been held recently in Leeds.”
Mr Ward said the society attracts exhibitors from all parts of the country, adding: “The show has 48 classes and an attractive prize of £100 to the best exhibit in the show, plus £50 to the runner-up. This is the highest prize money in the country at any pelargonium and geranium show.”
Admission is £1 and in addition to the show there will be plant stalls, tombola and refreshments available.
