These winning birthday card designs are set to be sent out to all first-time voters in the area.
Since 2001, Scarborough Borough Council has sent the cards, with a guide to voting, to all young people on the electoral register.
The competition to design the card launched in senior schools and colleges in 2006 but has been open to all residents of the borough for the past five years.
While the number of entries was small compared to previous years, Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, cllr Helen Mallory, said the standard was high.
She is pictured with the winners Ella Keld (far right),of the under 16 category, and Craig Newton, of the over 16 category, along with other entrants Cienna Keld and Hannah Mitchell.
The winners were chosen by the mayor and the Electoral Services Team.
The winners were presented with a £25 Amazon gift voucher and a pair of tickets to a show of their choice at the Open Air Theatre this summer.
Sue Bedford, the council’s election officer, said: “Turning 18 is a major milestone and many young people look forward to voting for the first time and being able to express a viewpoint at the ballot box. This design contest and sending out the cards forms part of our role to help young people understand the processes that are involved in voting and democracy.” 131420
