Yorkshire Coast Homes’ not-for-profit social enterprise “The Beach” has made it through to the final decision-making stage for this year’s Voice Your Choice scheme.

The final choices on who will receive funding will be made on Wednesday February 5 at Scarborough Library.

Voice Your Choice 2013/14 gives projects chance to bid for funding, with the decision resting with local residents who are invited to vote for their favourites.

The Beach provides employment and training opportunities for the young and long-term unemployed whilst also providing a quality maintenance service for the community.

Their services include grounds and garden maintenance, painting and decorating, estate care taking and also health and wellbeing assistance via the Altogether Better programme.

The project that forms the basis for this year’s Voice Your Choice funding is the offer of 10 work experience placements to residents from the urban area forum wards.

These placements would be for eight weeks in length and would include practical experience and training within the operational trades side of the Beach business.

Manager Bob Spedding said, “Should this application be successful, The Beach would work actively with partner organisations such as Job Centre Plus, Job Match, Careers Resource and local housing associations in order to help refer people to the scheme as well as to maximise their employment opportunities at the end of their placements.

“We hope that visitors to the event at Scarborough Library will see the value in our application and lend us their support.”
