A KIND-HEARTED Scarborough youngster has raised nearly £50 for a good cause by doing “Penny for the Guy”.

Nine-year-old Ben Hill said he was delighted to raise £48.19 for Olivia’s Fund.

The fund was set up following the death of Laura Smith, who worked at Hair by Helena in Westborough, to help support her baby daughter.

Gladstone Road pupil Ben said: “I thought it would be nice to donate to a charity.

“When I found out that Olivia had no mum, I wanted to help.

“I’m surprised to have raised so much. I’m really pleased.”

He made the guy with help from his mum, Caroline, who said: “I think it’s brilliant.

“It’s great for a boy of nine to say he wants to raise money for something and not keep it for himself.

“We both get our hair cut here and asked if we could sit the guy outside the salon.

“It’s gone really well.”

Helena Scott, who owns the salon and is a trustee of Olivia’s Fund, said: “I think it’s fantastic that Ben thought about doing this for Olivia’s Fund and he deserves praise for that.

“He’s raised a great amount and I’m very proud of him.

“The fund is going very well and donations like this make all the difference.”

Mrs Scott added that the fund will help support Olivia and keep her mum’s memory alive.
