SCARBOROUGH’S best known photographer and prolific fundraiser Max Payne has died at the age of 77.

Mr Payne was well known across the town, particularly for his support of Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

He raised more than £250,000 for the cause through a variety of ventures including his popular photographic calendars.

During his life time Mr Payne was awarded an MBE and was named an Honorary Freeman of the Scarborough Borough in recognition of his fundraising efforts.

Mr Payne, who lived in Newby, died last night after struggling to recover from a heart attack he suffered ten days ago.

He leaves his wife Maureen and two children.
