Futurist decision to be made

The decision on what will replace The Futurist theatre will be made by Scarborough councillors today.

The authority’s cabinet will meet at 10am and whatever the outcome the building will be demolished.

It is up to the cabinet to decide whether an attraction, comprising of a magical cave, roller coaster, botanical gardens and hotel will be built on the site or whether to push ahead with a wider development plan that would see it knocked down but with no plans for what would replace it.

The authority has confirmed to The Scarborough News that the decision is being classed as ‘executive’, meaning the cabinet would not need to have its decision ratified by the full council.

Members of the Save Our Futurist group will be attending the meeting to hear the fate of the attraction they have battled so long to save.
