Say it with sunflowers - that’s the message from St Catherine’s Hospice as the Sunflower Memories Appeal 2014 gets under way.
The appeal gives people the chance to remember a loved one by sponsoring a sunflower as part of a summer display, while at the same time raising much-needed funds for patient care.
Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell explained: “A donation is given to Saint Catherine’s and there is the opportunity to include the name of the person.
“A sunflower is hand written with the name of this person and for two weeks the sunflowers are on display in the gardens of the hospice, after which people are welcome to take them home if they wish.
“Any donation is welcome until July 16, after which time they sunflowers will be arranged by the Hospice garden volunteers.
“They made a lovely decoration to the entrance of the hospice last year. In the words of one of the donors, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to have a joyful way of remembering their lives’.”
On Sunday July 27 at 1.30pm everyone is welcome to come and see the flowers in situ. Several members of the hospice staff will be available to chat to and refreshments will be served.
Call (01723) 378406 and ask for details or pick up a form from the hospice in Throxenby Lane. The latest you can send in a dedication and donation is July 16.
